“ Theme Time Radio Hour on XM Satellite Radio with your host Bob Dylan” started in May 2006. “Take a trip to the land of radio magic. With music hand-selected from his personal collection. Bob Dylan takes you to places only he can. Listen as Bob Dylan weaves his own brand of radio with themes, dreams and schemes” runs the advertisement. Between April 2006 and April 2007 and restarting in September 2007 for the second season, you could listen - once a week and exactly for one hour - to Bob Dylan’s special cartography of American culture and history, an ecletic mix of music, interviews, commentary on basic topics of ordinary and everyday life. Weather, Mothers, Tennessy, Trains, Time, Divorce, Shoes are some of the themes of the weekly monothematic radio show.
Bob Dylan, one of the most important poets, songwriter and singer of the last fifty years gives a deep insight in American Culture by his choice of music which points far beyond itself. And he presents himself as the old man going back to his childhood, to tie and web on the dreams, scenes and schemes of his forerunners and of himself . He offers his and their observations, experiences and artistic working through to a younger audience of today, which seems to be far away of the presented questions, dreams, experiences and attitudes.
